Hotel Landmark - Kanpur

Hotel Landmark - Kanpur

I am visiting this hotel for the past 12 years, this time almost after 3 years.  Rooms have been upgraded and there is a new look to the rooms.  Rooms are quite big and rates though are high is fine.  Options for dining is good and this time I found food especially the restaurant and bar near the pool to be very good.  I loved the food there.  Room is clean and service is very good.  Breakfast is complimentary and the spread is reasonable for breakfast not very many also not very few, just enough for breakfast.  Service is quite fast both at restaurant and room service.  The gym has been given an uplift and I liked it very much.  Swimming pool also has been given a facelift, though I did not go for a swim this time, looked great.   Overall good experience good experience during my stay there and looking forward to visiting again.

Hotel Four Points - Dubai

Hotel Four points is part of Sheraton group and part of SPG.  This hotel is located in Bur Dubai and has in its proximity to Metro station, super markets, Meena Bazar, restaurants of many sizes which suits your budget whatever may be the size of it.   I prefer this hotel mainly due to the above facilities and it is easy to find a good restaurant to eat nearby and also can shop with ease and mobility due to Metro is easy.  From the airport it costs around 50 to 60 Dirhams by Taxi and above 30 minutes in non peak traffic and about 45 minutes in peak traffic.  Though not very big hotel rooms are quite cosy and neat.  Rooms can accommodate 2 and 3 can also be comfortable with extra bed.  Breakfast is complimentary though the spread is quite limited and the breakfast room is quite small and it can get crowded during the morning, so please prefer for an early  breakfast before 8.30am.   Cost starts around AED 320 (INR 6,500), and it is value for money.  Business meeting rooms are quite good and suits your requirement and suits business travels.  For business meetings packages are for room rent + lunch which makes it quite effective as less time is spent on lunch and need not go out of the hotel for lunch during business meetings.  The hotel has a good and well equipped gym.  Swimming pool is temperature controlled though small very cosy and comfortable.  Jacuzzi is quite comfortable and relaxing for a 10 to 15 minute jump into it.

I recommend for business meetings and mid-budget travellers.

Deccan Plaza - Royapettah

We went for a buffet lunch at Deccan Plaza at Royapettah which is a 3 star Vegetarian hotel.  In fact it has a good selection of Jain food also.  The buffet had a reasonable spread with salads, naan, rice, 4 to 5 vegetables, rasam, sambar, curd, pulav etc.  The taste was good though may not be excellent.  Some of the items were spicy and we had to be little careful on them.  The dessert section was also reasonable with fruits, cake and payasam.  It was my daughter's birthday so I said I would like to have a cake to cut, they gave it to me free of cost (complementary - 1/2 kg fresh cream cake), it sure tasted good, and they played the birthday music as my daughter cut the cake.  The tables were full but as there were good space between the tables there was no real crowd near the dishes.  The buffet cost Rs.500 each, though slightly expensive for a 100% vegetarian food, considering the variety and the ambience this seems quite okay.  Definetly worth a try.

Hotel Kenilworth - Kolkata

Hotel Kenilworth is one of my favourites in Kolkata.  Though a small lobby very courteous staff.  Rooms are quite big and you also have antique rooms with wooden staircase to remind you of the olden days.  Food is excellent here.  Morning breakfast is complementary and there is a huge spread.  Restuarant though not big can accommodate about 50 people at a time.  Rooms are very clean & neat.  Being in the middle of the city makes it easier for business travels.  Cost of the standard rooms are Rs.5,500 + taxes, this includes breakfast, total cost after tax will work out approximately to Rs.6,450.

Ambrosia - Dhaka - Bangladesh

Dhaka is a crowded & a young city.  I found a lot of youngsters, but I found majority of them to be smokers.  In Dhaka I stayed in a guest house called "Ambrosia", good cosy place which is a house (a big bunglow) turned into a guest house.  A very small lobby but quite spacious and clean rooms.  It can get noisy as if people speak loudly in the lobby you can hear in the room.  Restaurant is very small with only 2 tables.  There is no set menu.  You need to tell the staff there what you would like to have for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they will prepare specifically for you.  If you do not tell them in advance you cannot have them.  Fish is very good, they make good chicken, only problem for me was the quantity, which was too big for one person.  This is an alchol free place.  You should note this is not a hotel and so if you would require your shaving kit or a cup of tea or a cool drink you need to order and wait for some one to make it or buy it for you from a shop nearby.  In fact I ordered for a small bottle of a drink, but I got a 2 litre bottle stating that small one is not availble.  The bathrooms are very clean, beds are clean and I found quite a number of foreigners visit that place.  If anyone requires a good safe place without much pomp and glamour this is the place.  Be aware that they do not accept credit cards, so you should have your cash ready.

Cost of this place is moderate at $55 per night.  I paid about $300 for 3 nights + food for 3 days.  It was worth the spend.  You can contact Ambrosia at

Buhari Hotel - Chromepet

The new Buhari Hotel at Chrompet which is situated near the radial road flyover has a spacious hall to seat atleast 150 people comfortably.  Service was good and prices are moderate, neither cheap nor expensive.  We tried the Briyani & Ceylon Parotta tasted very good though they had a good amount of oil in them.  We also tried Chicken Barbeque which had mutton stuffed inside was excellent (again a bit more of oil).  Good ambience, good food, less noise despite the crowd due to this size of the place.  It is definitely worth a try.  Cost will be atleast Rs.250 per person for a good satisfying meal - worth it.

To top it all if you are a tea lover do not miss the ginger tea.  Ofcouse they have their signature desserts of Faluda and Peach Melba
